Gone to the Dogs

I remember in my younger days when I was wild and wooly, family would sometimes comment that I had “gone to the dogs.” Today I find that comment depicts where all of us should indeed go post-haste.

I know you have heard all the clichés about how dogs don’t care who loves them as long as they are loved. Bad breath, BO, skin color, politics, fur – no fur, male – female, tall – skinny, short – heavy, gay – straight…none of this matters to a dog. Dogs love for the sake of loving with no hidden agendas, guilt or shame.

Interracial love? How about interspecies love? Means nothing to a dog or cat…all is well and love is real, which is more than we can say about the human race.

Old, young, wise, not so wise, healthy, sick…none of this matters to a dog.

The only thing a dog requires is love and attention which is not based on greed, ambition, hidden agendas or any other human trait.

Rich or poor…it doesn’t matter to a dog who has love.

My point is that now I want people to say, “He has gone to the dogs.” We should all take heed of the blessings a dog or cat brings to our lives. We can indeed learn so much from their behavior that would enhance our own.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the whole human race went to the dogs and we started treating each other the way dogs and cats treat us? The world would be a better place indeed!

Equality – The Message

I used to think that if man were not on this planet, God would go unexpressed. I now see the fallacy in my thinking. Examples of Devine Love on this planet happen every day and we can see it happen through videos, news media and our own life experiences.

Every animal species on Earth (at one time or another) has shown great compassion and love to other species that sometimes would even be its prey. The interaction is astounding and sometimes unbelievable, but there it is happening in front of us and God’s love is being expressed by something other than mankind.

I remember expounding in the past how man was the only species on earth that could show compassion and love and that we were here to express the existence of Devine Love; lest it go unexpressed. How arrogant of me to think that the case when nature shows us examples of the unconditional love of a dog or cat every single day of our lives. I witnessed a lioness adopt an antelope as her own and she protected the little buck with her life.

What about the elephant and dog that became inseparable; the Greyhound and an owl – a hippo and a tortuous and a leopard standing next to a hound dog? The list is endless and all I had to do was open my eyes and my heart to what I was seeing and lo and behold, Divine Love was looking back at me.

It became clear to me that humans were really not needed on earth or anywhere else for that matter to express love because Divine Love was already being expressed in nature. I am not suggesting that we are unnatural and have no place in the universe. What I am suggesting is that we must learn the truth about our existence. We are not here to dominate the creatures of Earth because we are just a part of a larger picture that includes all animals big and small.

We can (and probably will) someday go extinct like so many creatures before us as our planet evolves. We are no better or worse than all life struggling to survive on what is surely a hostile world. Because of our intellect we can and should try to make life better for all of nature’s creations.

Because we live in an infinite universe does not mean that our temporal world will last forever. We know that it will not and it would behoove us to live in harmony while we are able. Once we learn equality with the life forms we share this planet with (including among ourselves), we will truly reflect the image and likeness of Devine Love.

A friend sent me the above link to a Youtube piece about dogs. Please, take a few minutes to view this heartwarming tribute to man’s best friend. I guarantee it will make your day a little better.

My thought on this wonderful video is that if humans were more like dogs, the world would know peace for the very first time in our history. A video about us would be a sad commentary indeed.

Doggy Delight

As a family growing up in southern California, we were not allowed to have indoor dogs. Sister could have a kitten, but my brother and I couldn’t have a puppy. Later, I realized that Dad probably couldn’t have an indoor dog when growing up either, thus his attitude towards the subject.

I was 52 years old before I knew what having an indoor dog was about. I married my wife knowing that if I didn’t like her Chihuahuas, I might as well move along. I have fond memories of one of her babies nipping me on the heels in the kitchen. Murray was very protective of his pack leader. I think Willie wanted to join in the nips, but his mouth was too small.

For some reason, I didn’t take the nips personal and it wasn’t long before I found love, contentment and happiness with my wife and her little friends. I started learning the value of pet family members – from human, to cats, birds and dogs. I must admit to not caring much for her Amazon red parrot, Albert; he was in fact a demon bird and ended up at nursing home aviary for biting one of my stepson’s through the lip while hanging there flapping his wings. He knew how to inflict maximum pain.

The only sad part of this blog is that we have had to put down so many of our family over the last 23 years whom we loved with all are hearts and souls. The process of becoming a responsible pet owner was tough. I cried tears and felt pain in my heart and soul I thought only reserved for humans. We have their ashes in decorative boxes in our house out of love and respect. Being a responsible pet owner is paramount when you decide to become a pack leader.

We also participate in Freekibble on-line… http://www.freekibble.com/?utm_source=email&utm_medium=fkreminder&utm_campaign=fk-home&utm_term=20141212&utm_content=_m everyday and we buy their products for Christmas and birthday presents every year. Helping to feed, house and take care of all our animal friends should be a top priority for all of us who love them with all our hearts.

Proud Animal Lover

images

I was appalled today when I was playing Freekibble online and discovered that Canada will not ban the import of cat and dog skins for fear it might affect their baby Fur Seal trade. Are they kidding me? Dog and cat skins along with baby seal fur? Our neighbors to the north have much to learn about what it means to be enlightened while showing us the nasty side of being human.

This situation may seem insignificant to some, but to animal lovers it is an abomination. When you factor in that animals have souls just like humans, the killing and skinning of dogs, cats and baby seals is sickening. Personally, I equate this behavior to Nazis skinning Jews and using the result for lamp shades.

One thing is for sure; I lost all respect for the Canadian government. I categorize them below how I feel about our own Federal government which is hard to do. Congratulations Canada, you have taken the heat off all the liars and cheats populating Washington, D.C.

Yes, I am fanatical about protecting animals wild and domestic. Our capability to love all these creatures reflects the wonderful human ability to be enlightened and in tune with Devine Love. Without that ability…we are truly lost and deserve no better treatment than Canada is showing our furry friends.

A Day in My Life

dv455045

It’s Thursday; do you know where your ass is? Yes, the donkey next door got out again and I spent a couple of hours proving yet again that man is not as smart as he thinks he is while trying to catch the Equus africanus asinus. I used every trick in the book including enticing Jenny with carrots, grapes, apples and other really yummy goodies. She would stay just far enough away from me so that it was impossible to get a halter on her but she always managed to eat the goodies I left on the ground while I went into the house for another treat.

Of course this only happens when her owners are away. When they are home, Jenny asinus behaves like an angel. I have watched them feed her grain and only one carrot because they don’t want to spoil her. The minute they leave, Jenny finds a way to get into my yard and the process of spoiling begins.

This time while I was begging Jenny to let me get a halter on her, a boy from down the street stopped to watch the action and said, “Mittster, why don’t you just lasso Jenny? She is close enough for even me to rope her.” I replied, “Shouldn’t you be in school or something?” I hate Arizona kids; they learn to rope before they stop pooping in their diapers!

The kid went into the shed, got a rope and lassoed Jenny, handed me the rope and went on walking down the road laughing like kids do when they have made a grownup look really, really stupid. I know Billie will spread the news all over the block about today’s episode, so I might as well get a sign that says, Home of Mittster – Homo sapiens asinus and hang it on the front door.

As I was leading Jenny back to her pasture, her owner drove up in his driveway, got out and asked what I was doing with Jenny. “On, nothing much,” I replied. “We just went for a walk and were discussing the current situation of politics in America. What the hell do you think I am doing with her? She got our again and I am trying to return her to where she should be and not in my yard!” “Don’t get your shorts in a bunch, Mitt; it’s just the first time I have ever seen you bring Jenny back; I always have had to get her myself. Did you finally learn how to rope her?” the neighbor said while laughing much like the kid earlier.

I handed to rope to Phil, turned and walked toward my shed to start making the sign. In the distance I heard Jenny baying like donkeys do, which sounds like laughter and can be heard for miles. Crap, now the whole town knows and you can rest assured that the episode will be in the weekly local paper and be the talk of the town. Such is the way of life in Camp Verde, Arizona.
